Crittenden Estate Landscaping

Brief
..........
Crittenden Estate approached Foliage Landscaping with a vision for their winery landscape design: to create a welcoming outdoor space where guests could relax, laze, and enjoy tastings and long lunches amongst the vines.

Our goal was to design a beautiful landscape for their large estate. It should blend in with the surrounding lake, vines, and natural Mornington Peninsula tones, making the space feel as though it has always belonged.

The brief also centred on designing a space that functionally accommodated both everyday visitors and large events such as weddings.

Style
..........
The landscape design drew inspiration directly from the surrounding environment. We blended earthy textures, soft movement, coastal tones, and rustic finishes that brought out the natural Peninsula palette.

Custom corten steel raised garden beds framed the space, introducing warm, weathered tones that pair effortlessly with the winery’s architectural style. Crushed rock base with locally sourced screenings was used for the majority of the base of the new area, creating a natural flow throughout the new terraced gardens.

The raised garden beds were designed to give a feeling of privacy, still connected, but immersed within the garden beds. The open garden arbour was designed to hold large tables for functions or communal tables. It frames the restaurant and vineyard without disrupting the view and flow onto the expansive lawn.

The layered planting palette was intentionally curated to feel organic and timeless throughout the seasons. Our team planted hardy species that bring softness and movement while keeping maintenance low.

The Crittenden Estate Landscaping was designed to prioritise functionality for large events and everyday visitors, ensuring durable surfaces, a strong structure, and a practical flow. Every detail—from the edging to the garden layout—was chosen to enhance how people gather, taste, and connect in the space.

The Challenge
..........
The biggest challenge was ensuring the new landscape felt like a natural continuation of the existing environment. With the lake on one side and rows of vines on the other, the space needed to harmonise with its surroundings.

The area also had to contend with constant foot traffic, large gatherings, and varied weather conditions. This required careful material selection, strong structural planning, and thoughtful zoning to maintain flow and practicality.

Our Commitment:
 Champagne Service

..........
By collaborating closely with the Crittenden family, we ensured their landscape design reflected their values: celebrating local wine, local produce, and the spirit of the estate. We took care of the planning, communication, construction, and final presentation, leaving the property immaculate and ready to enjoy. No stress, no loose ends — just a beautiful landscape and a reason to celebrate, with a bottle of champagne
